Our Review
The Lost Heir is the second Wings of Fire book, and it shifts the series underwater as Tsunami, stolen as an egg from the SeaWing royal hatchery, finally travels to the SeaWing Kingdom to meet the mother and the subjects she's never known. Tui T. Sutherland gives the dragonets' journey a homecoming shape, but the book's own description flags that Tsunami's arrival doesn't go quite as she pictures it, so the reunion carries real tension alongside the excitement. At 406 pages for ages 6 to 10, it's a hefty middle chapter in the saga, published by Scholastic.
Setting a dragon story underwater gives this entry its own identity within the saga rather than repeating the same kind of adventure in a new location. The core question, what does it mean to belong to a family and a kingdom you were taken from as an egg and never got to know, gives Tsunami's homecoming more weight than a simple happy reunion would. Best for a reader already following the dragonets from the first book, since the royal politics here assume that groundwork is already in place.
