Our Review
Disappearances with no clear pattern have been quietly emptying out this small town, and the protagonist has to work out what's actually happening before becoming the next person the town loses, which keeps personal risk in the plot from page one rather than treating the mystery as purely intellectual. The tension builds through buried town history colliding with something dangerous happening right now, and the reveals come spaced out rather than dumped all at once, rewarding a reader willing to sit with not knowing for a while.
There's a supernatural edge running under the more grounded mystery elements, and the book earns it by keeping the emotional stakes, trust, memory, who actually survives, tethered to real characters instead of letting the eerie elements carry the whole story. Running 385 pages in paperback, it doesn't rush toward its own payoff. It holds a 4.22 average across several hundred Goodreads ratings, and it's a good fit for a teen reader who wants a mystery that closes the central case while still leaving a few things appropriately unresolved.
